Fall Monochromatic Outfit....Blue

Yesterday I decided to pair the checked shirt my mum got me while she was on holiday this Summer. While I must admit that I am not really into ruffles, especially on casual shirts, I really liked the colours in this shirt. To tone down the ruffles and not make them pop against a different bottom, I opted to wear a light blur jeans in a shade similar to the shirt. This monochromatic combination helped tone minimize the ruffles and also make the outfit more casual. Although a checked shirt is always casual, this one was a little bit strange because I would associate ruffles with more elegant put together pieces. So by pairing it with casual pieces I was able to make this piece feel more relaxed. To remain in the blue family, I wore my new electric blue flat pumps which I love (although they cause me blisters). I think that the bright shoes made the whole outfit less boring and obvious. In fact while monochromatic outfits can be classic, easy to put together and great to elongate your body, they can also be boring. That's why it's important to play with different shades of the same colour, different textures and incorporate brighter pieces and also break the monochromatic them with your accessories. That's what I did by mixing silver and blue accessories and wearing my tan handbag. This latter is not blue which makes the outfit more interesting but being a brown colour is also classic and neutral enough not to clash with the main colour.

I am wearing:
Light blue skinny jeans from Stradivarius
Blue checked shirt from Piazza Italia
Blue flat plumps from Stradivarius
Tan handbag from Mango Dubai
Blue bracelets from Stradivarius
Silver necklace (was a gift)
Pearl studs from Tally Weijl (recent purchase)

What about you? Do you like monochromatic outfits or do you prefer colour blocking?

What to wear to a Job Interview......

Hello ladies,

Putting together an outfit for a job interview can be stressful especially for those who are going for their first interview. I would suggest you to dress nice and professionally whatever the position. Because first image counts a lot. And it is better to be overdressed than looking bad and inappropriate. This is what I wore to my last interview........I hope this helps any of you who have an interview coming. And good luck! Believe in yourself, be yourself and be honest with your prospective employer. Show them you are willing to learn and work hard. And whatever yourself make sure you say it with a convincing tone.

I am wearing.....
Black pencil skirt from Orsay
Burnt orange blouse from New Look
Blazer from Zara
Black patent flat shoes from New Look
Gold stud earrings from H&M
Handbag from Market
Glasses from Moschino

I took these picture the day after the interview because I forgot on the day of interview. My makeup and hair was similar but more put together......I would suggest soft makeup with defined eyes (some mascara and eye liner) and neutral lips. As for hair go with something polished which keeps the hair away from your face. This is for an administrative/ business position. For fashion or more creative position play more with colours and textures.

Layering for Fall........

Hello ladies,

Fall is almost over and the cold weather is on its way. For this reason I want to show with few outfits how I have been layering during this last month.

Layering 1: V-neck sweater & Shirt

I wore this outfit on a Sunday. We took the bus and went for a long walk in the morning and then did some quick shopping. I bought a black scarf (because I lost my black one) and an eye shadow palette. This outfit was perfect because it was put together and comfortable, warm but not too much since it was a sunny day. I don't like to overdress when I use the public transport so the outfit is pretty simple but still nice.I am wearing:

Blue straight leg jeans from New Look
Old Shirt from Miss Selfridge
Sweater from Calliope
Brogues from New Look
Necklace from New Look
Hand bag from Sicily
Essence Must Have Nail polish

Layering 2: Turtle neck & Jacket

This outfit is another simple outfit which I wore just for walking around Valletta and taking some pictures on a Saturday morning. Again we had to take the bus (because our car was at the mechanic) so I wanted to be warm and comfortable. I am wearing:

Blue jeans from Centro Moda
Brown ankle boots from Centro Moda
Army green turtle Neck from Centro Moda
Brown/cognac belt from New Look
Necklace from Things
Gold Studs from H&M
Beige Jacket from Bossini
Handbag from New Look

Layering 3: Tank top, Sweater & Blazer

I wore this outfit during the week for a late afternoon food shopping. On that day we also went to have a look at a local Christmas decorations shop. I got some ideas from there for my Christmas decorations ideas post which I will be publishing next week. I wanted a simple outfit but a little bit chic. I am wearing:

Skinny blue jeans from Centro Moda
White tank top
Grey V neck sweater from Calliope
Grey scarf from local market
Black Blazer from Terranova
Black boots from Gauda (local shop)
On my nails Essence Must Have

Now that the air is getting colder I will definitely be layering with many more pieces. Layering can keep you warm and make you look stylish when it is done in the right way. The idea is to use different pieces which are not very bulky but which have a warm cosy texture.

Stay FAB.

What to do on black Friday 2011 + What to buy.

What to do on Black Friday 2011........

Hello,

As I already said in my Thanksgiving post we do not celebrate Thanksgiving in Malta. Consequently, we do not get to enjoy Black Friday Shopping.....But if you are American and you are so lucky to enjoy this long weekend make the most of it. And get shopping!

What to do on Black Friday....
In this post I want to write about what I would do if I were to celebrate Black Friday myself tomorrow.....
I would enjoy a shopping day with a break for lunch at about 3 for a nice meal not too heavy though. Some sushi would be great or a nice salad but also a tasty pizza.....Don't forget it's Friday and you are allowed to indulge...But if you have already stuffed yourself for Thanksgiving I would eat light meals on Friday......

What to buy on Black Friday.......

1. If sales have started you could buy anything you like which you also need or want, as long as it is a deal.
2. What about Christmas decor items for this year. Do you need a new Christmas tree, extra lights or extra decorations. Do you want to change your Christmas colour theme? Do it now.....

3. And of course, start thinking about Christmas gifts. If you find good deals which you believe will make nice presents then get them. You can also purchase small things which you can then use to fill your gifts bags.

4. You can buy clothes to wear for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

 5. And if you come across something you didn't plan on buying but which you love buy it. It can be your own Christmas gift. And what is great about this is that you won't feel guilty since you got a deal!

6. Why not indulge into some makeup shopping. Do you have makeup staples you have long wanted? Why not buy them now if they are on sale?

7. Another great idea is to buy Birthday gifts if you can get a good price for them. If you have loved ones or you know someone who has his/her birthday during the following months, you can purchase their gift in advance. That way you will not have to think about it and you can also get something nicer because of the sale. Only do this if your budget for this month shopping allows you too.

8. Think about your wedding........If you can get sales on certain wedding necessities like wedding bands, souvenirs, shoes for the bride and groom but also for your bridesmaids, jewellery for your bridesmaids and other things don't lose this opportunity. Getting these necessities on sale will leave you with extra money for your honeymoon or for your home.....

9. Are you going on a trip? Do you need certain clothes, shoes or accessories? Buy them now!

10. Last but not least don't forget YOU CAN BUY ONLINE.

Set yourself a budget and try to stick with it, especially if you will have to continue your Christmas shopping during December. You don't want to indulge too much and end up not being able to buy your dear ones a gift.

If you have a lower budget or if you don't want to spend money on Black Friday you can still enjoy some window shopping and try to find good deals to keep in mind for you December Christmas Shopping.

I would really love to be celebrating tomorrow with a full day of shopping especially with all the sales and deals which are going to be available in Unites States. But since I can't, I hope my ideas can be useful for you. I would love to hear from you what you are going to do tomorrow, what you are planning to purchase
or what deals you have found. So leave me your comments and tell me all about your Black Friday!

Enjoy your Black Friday.....

WHAT TO WEAR ON BLACK FRIDAY 2011.

Red Nails........

Hello ladies,

Here is another FALL 2011 nail of the week look. It's a classic, I know. But believe it or not, it's my first red nail look.
The nail polish I used to create this nail look is by Florelle which is an Italian brand of nail polish made in Milan, Italy. I am using number 86 which is  bright red. The bottle contains 15 ml of product. I must say I like its consistency because it is liquid but not too runny. It is very easy to apply, although the brush is not very small. I don't like thick nail polishes because they tend to apply badly and also take longer to dry plus they are very easy to smudge. This nail polish doesn't have a strong scent, I mean it is bearable which is important for me since I am super sensitive to scents and fragrances.

How to Wear a red nail.......
I think this colour is a nice colour for every season of the year. It's great to throw on when you feel like a bright red. I think it can be very chic if worn with blue jeans and black cardigan / coat with black accessories for a casual look. Or else you can pair with your favourite black dress for an evening look.

I hope you find this post useful and hope to have you back for more other nail posts......

WHAT TO WEAR ON THANKSGIVING 2011..........

Hello ladies,

HAPPY THANKSGIVING..... to all you ladies who celebrate this day and also to you loved ones.

In this post I ma featuring a Polyvore set which I just created for Thanksgiving. Burgundy, mustard, brown and rose gold are the colours I would wear if I were to celebrate this feast (in Malta we don not celebrate it).....but I might start to from next year. Why not, what do you think?
I think this outfit is super chic and very feminine. But I also believe it is classic since all the pieces are quiet simple. What makes them pop are the warm and autumn inspired colours.

This is a great outfit for a get together meal with your families but also for a walk around parks and parades. You can simply throw on a pair of brown flats and you are good to walk for long hours. You will transform the look from classy chic to classy cute.

Essence Must Have!

Hello ladies,

Today I have another fall nail look. It is N. 62 Must Have by Essence Multi Dimension XXXL Shine. This is a charcoal grey colour. What I like about it is that is very flashy and it reflect teal blue/green particles. It's almost as if it contained tiny glitters from within which you can't really see them. The finish is very beautiful as it is shiny and those reflected particles add some extra dimension to the whole nail.

It's the perfect dark colour for those of you who have want to try dark colours but are afraid of the harsh look. This is dark but not too dark and it reflects some colour which makes it interesting and less strong.

This is my first dark grey nail polish and although I was not sure I would like it, I must admit that I actually do. I am also thinking about layering some glitters nail polish over it and see how it comes out. I am also looking forward to buy some new Essence Nail Polishes. So keep reading my blog for more Essence nail looks and reviews.

November Outfit of the Day: Relaxed and cosy Sunday!

GC57FARGF3GQ
Hello,

Here is the outfit I wore today. It was a cold Sunday, initially rainy but then it got better. So we were able to go for a walk and see few shops. I opted for something comfortable and warm. I wore my new cardigan from Orsay, which I got last month, and my new flats from New Look, which you can see in my Haul post here http://alessiapearl.blogspot.com/2011/10/fall-2011-new-look-haul50-sale.html. My hair was up in a low bun, and I chose some gold accessories. For my face, I just wore some concealer and bronzer and a copper eye look with black eyeliner. On the lips I had some pink lip balm.

I am wearing:
Black skinny jeans from Centro Moda
Burgundy top from Bossini
Cardigan from Orsay
Black patent flat from New Look
Handbag from Sicily
Gold necklace from New Look
Gold bracelet from Accessorize
Gold studs from H&M
