Cotton Candy at Eiffel Tower by Catrice

While I am definitely a natural makeup look lover, be it on the face or or my nails, I also think wearing nude nails is appropriate when going for a very bright outfit (unless you want to go for colour blocking). Since Spring and Summer are all about pastel and bright clothes, nude nails seem very popular on this season runway. While Loewe paired nude nails with darker colours and Max Mara with nude, khaki and brown shades, De La Renta contrasted the brighter clothes with some cream nails (see images below).

What about you, do you like nude nails? Or do you prefer brighter shades?

How to wear a military shirt....Spring 2013

Before going onto some inspiration looks to help you decide how to wear your military shirt, here is an OOTD I wore yesterday which also features a military shirt. While mine has short sleeves the military shirts ones in the examples below are all long sleeved. I opted for a casual look and I kept the colours on the darker side. My only pop of colour came from my coral top and my nails which you can see here

I am wearing....
Black skinny trousers from Zara, coral sleeveless top from Calliope, brown military shirt from Terranova, brown trainer pumps from Sicily market, gold heart stud earrings from Tally Weijl, and black shoulder bag from Stradivarius.

Below are a good number of looks featuring a military shirt. Some of them include dresses and others are styled around jeans and trousers. Let me know in the comments below which look is your favourite and also how you like to wear your military shirts.

Spring Summer 2013 Earrings

If you read my OOTD posts you might know that I only wear studs. Earrings have always been my favourite jewellery piece. I can definitely leave the house without a necklace and a bracelet as long as I have my earrings on. For years and years I have worn long chandelier earrings but during the past 3 years I have only worn stud earrings. I feel that because I am petite and I wear glasses, larger and longer earrings can overpower my face. Plus, I see studs as more modern and edgy although they can also be very classy and put together, especially pearls. And that's exactly what my fashion style is - a mix of classic, modern, edgy pieces with unique details. So after spending few hours browsing online for this season earrings I reduced my favourites to the ones below. Let me know in the comments if you too prefer stud earrings over larger and dangly ones.

Spring Work look 4

This week work look is fresh, young and very Spring appropriate both in terms of the soft colours and the floral print. It's a great work look for the office as well as for doctors, teachers, artists and entrepreneurs. It's easy to put together and is also quiet comfortable with trousers instead of a skirt and with the relatively low heel. If you like this look make sure to check out Look 1, Look 2 and Look 3.

Anthelios Dry Touch Gel Cream 50+ by La Roche Posay

Quick review of the Anthelios Extreme Fluid 50+
After having used the Anthelios Extreme Fluid 50+ for the past 3 years I was ready for a change. Although great in terms of protection, the consistency of the Anthelios Fluid is far too liquid for my face during the hotter months. It makes my skin greasy and my makeup doesn't last long. On the other hand, this product works well for me during the Winter months. The fact is that the packaging is huge and the product ends up being wasted since I only need a small amount for my face and it expires after a year. This is the main reason why I haven't used sunscreen throughout Fall and Winter- I didn't want to repurchase the same sunscreen and couldn't find any other options by la Roche Posay where I live, as it seems that only few people apply sunscreen during the colder months. Since I consider sunscreen an essential product, and because I was quiet disappointed for not being able to find an alternative for Winter, I started researching sunscreens at the beginning of Spring. And after a few weeks I finally found 3 options, all by la Roche Posay (as this is the only skincare brand I am currently using). The three options were the following: the Anthelios Smooth Lotion, the Anthelios Melt-in- Cream and the Anthelios Dry touch gel cream. After considering the pros and cons of each one, I realized the best option was the third one as it's the only one which should help me avoid any greasiness and shine on my face.

The Anthelios Dry Touch Gel Cream claims to be ideal for combination to oily skin (which is my skin type during Summer), water resistant and thus perfect for swimming and any activities involving sweating like outdoor fitness and training. It also says to have a dry touch texture, double anti-shine action, immediate absorption, ultra dry finish and leaves no white marks.
After using this sunscreen for a few days, I can report back that all the stated benefits on the packaging are actually true. It comes in a tube which makes the product look like a cream; but it's not a creamy product. It has a strange consistency- its white colour makes it look like a cream; when you squeeze the packaging to let the product come out, it feels like a gel; when the sunscreen touches your fingers it has a harder creamy consistency; when you blend it on the face it feels like a silicone based product (indeed it does have silica listed among its ingredients); and when you are done blending it into your skin it leaves powdery streaks on the fingers but none on the face.

This sunscreen is not greasy at all, and it's definitely not liquid. Because of the harder consistency you need more to apply to the entire face. You need to press it well into your skin in order to blend it. But once you do this, the product is absorbed quickly and dries within few minutes without leaving any residue. It does feel a little sticky at first, but once it dries this sensation is gone. I think the silicone in this product makes it a great makeup base. So with one product you are actually protecting yourself from the sun and making your makeup last longer. Although I do not use a primer, I believe that unless you are super oily, you shouldn't be needing to apply primer with this sunscreen. Contrarily to what the Anthelios Fluid used to do to my makeup, this sunscreen did not affect my makeup at all. It doesn't make it greasy or cakey. On the contrary, it makes it last longer and better.

To conclude this review I am going to say that I love this sunscreen. The 14.90 euros I paid for the 50 ml content were definitely worth it. And unless something better comes out, which is also fragrance and paraben free, I will keep re-purchasing this product during the warmer months. So if you are oily, or combination to oily, or even normal but you like a matte finish you should definitely try this out!

How to wear a floral dress.....Spring 2013

Floral prints have been popular for quiet a while, and yet they don't seem to be going out of fashion any time soon. Trousers, tops, skirts, shorts, dresses, shoes and also accessories can all be found in a floral print this season. So if you have floral pieces from last Summer feel free to wear them this season too. However, until the weather gets warmer you might want to layer your lighter floral pieces, including your dresses. This is what I am going to show you in this post. A floral dress can be dressed up and dressed down. Depending on the quality of its fabric, the colours, and the style of the dress it might be more suitable for casual wearing. But you can always try to dress it up with a pair of heels and a nice clutch. For a more casual look you can layer your floral dress under a cotton blazer, or even wear it with a light knitted top or a cardigan, and pair it with some cute flats and a shoulder handbag. Below is a collection of images showing how I would wear my two floral dresses for a casual morning.

Below are some examples of floral dresses I spotted on the Runway for this Spring and Summer 2013.

Coral Trousers: Look 3

This week's coral red trousers pairing is bright, fun and modern. It's perfect for all of you who like to mix brights. While it follows the colour blocking trend, in my opinion is still fresh. The key to achieving a balanced look, when pairing brighter colours together, is in my opinion to have some lighter pieces. Hence my choice to pair the bright coral red trousers and the minty blue blazer with a white shirt, beige sandals and handbag and light gold accessories. Let me know which is your favourite look so far, whether Look 1, Look 2 or today's pairing.

Denim - Spring Summer 2013

Denim is the one item which never goes out of style. Hence, we can always wear it - morning and evening as well as Summer and Winter. However, one can still purchase denim pieces which are more suitable for warmer months and others which are best worn during Fall and Winter. In this post I want to share with you my favourite denim pieces for this Spring and Summer.

In terms of denim trends for this season I would say that apart from the usual blue denim -whether light or dark wash- coloured denim is very in. It has been popular for several seasons. You can opt for pastel coloured denim or brighter denim. Another denim trend which is big this season is printed denim -floral, polka dots, ethnic prints were seen on the runway but can also be found in most High Street shops.

HIGH STREET NECKLACES FOR SS13.....

Last week I shared with you my favourite Runway Necklaces for Spring and Summer 2013. Today, I want to share some more affordable necklaces. If you don't see any necklace from your favourite shop featured in this post, keep an eye for future posts. In fact, I have a Miss Selfridge and a Topshop necklaces posts coming soon.

In terms of necklaces trends, I feel this season is all about statement necklaces in either bright colours or metallic ones, with a mix of tribal and futuristic designs.

Spring at Work Look 3

Unless you have a strict dressing code to follow, who said business smart clothing should be boring? Have fun with your work outfits and incorporate some colour and print. I love the look below. It's modern, edgy, vibrant and fun. But it's still put together and smart. If you follow Hart of Dixie, I think this is a look which Zoe Hart would be likely to wear for her work days.

Spring Cleaning....Week 1

Every season I like to deep clean my house. However, Spring is when I do the most of the heavy cleaning like above wardrobes, behind furniture, wash all the curtain and change some of the decor to get a fresh and brighter look. Usually I clean all the house in about 3 or 4 days, which means at least 12 hours cleaning per day non stop (except for bathroom and eating breaks). At the end of this cleaning spree I am shattered. This year, I decided to give myself 2 full weeks to clean the entire house. This first week I have cleaned Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. Monday and Saturday I wasn't home and Friday I did laundry. I started with the master bedroom, continued with the bathroom on Wednesday, my room on Thursday and today I cleaned the kitchen and living room. Next week I will clean the hall on Wednesday and the last room on  Friday. And  after that I will be done. To help myself remembering each cleaning task I have to do for each room in the right sequence, I like to write the tasks in the respective order in an old diary. Below you can see an example.

Although I am super clean and organized, at times to an OCD extreme, I do not enjoy every single cleaning task. I like ironing clean curtains and putting all the furniture and decor items in their place once everything is clean. I don't mind hooving and washing the floor. But I do not like washing windows and yards. But almost everything must be cleaned, not only at the beginning of each season but at least once a week. I do enjoy sitting and looking at the result at the end while having a cup of tea or writing a blog post as I am doing right now.

As you can see in the images above, I love orange in my kitchen and living room. I think it's the perfect colour for Spring and Summer.

What about you, do you like spring cleaning? What chore do you enjoy the most?

Navy Blue Jeans.....Spring 2013 OOTD

Today I wore my new Zara jeans in navy blue. I must say I kind of hate them because they are quiet lose and I felt like I needed to keep pulling them up. When I bought them they were slightly lose around my waist, but after washing and wearing them for few hours today they felt lose from the waist as well as from the legs. Anyway, I will be wearing them with a skinny belt next time. Apart from the size being too big, I really like the shade. The fabric is not my favourite. I prefer my skinny black trousers jeans from Zara.

For this first outfit featuring these new jeans, I wanted to mix classic with edgy. The grey blazer is pretty classic but when paired with the white graphic t shirt and a pair of jeans and flat pumps it takes a more modern feel. The black rockish casual bag I paired it with made this look even more edgy.

I am wearing.....navy blue 5 pocket trousers from Zara, blue flat pumps from Stradivarius, white graphic t shirt from Alcott Sicily, grey blazer from Bershka, Rimmel London portobello pink on my nails and L'Oreal Cheeky Magenta on my lips.

Best Blazers & Jackets for SPRING 2013

Spring is the perfect season to layer with lighter jackets and blazers. I love the look of a dark or bright pair of jeans or trousers worn with either a casual t-shirt or a nicer top under a light or bright blazer. This look is very versatile and can be quickly turned from day to night. Plus, blazers are the perfect clothing piece for work whether worn with a pair of sleek trousers or a smart pencil skirt. Below are my favourite jackets and blazers for this season. They are all High Street pieces, and thus quiet affordable.

If you like what you see, and would like to get more ideas on how to pair the blazers and jackets above and below check the rest of my blog. I have already posted few inspiration looks featuring some of these jackets and will post more in the coming weeks. Below are four other great blazers I recently spotted online.

Spring Haircut + OOTD

Today I went for a haircut, as my hair was getting too long and needed some definition. I booked my appointment with my favourite stylist at my favourite hair salon. So there was no doubt I was going to be pleased with the end result. I really love the haircut my hair stylist Marion gave me. It's shorter than what I was thinking but it's actually better since my next haircut is going to be even shorter. It will help me prepare for that. The atmosphere and the view at the Mr James International salon at the Radisson Golden Sands are to die for. I never use the magazines they provide me with, as I prefer staring at the blue sky. Cheesy, I know...And to make my day even better, after the haircut my husband and I went for an eggplant pizza (my favourite) and then shopping. I got a new pair of navy blue jeans. Below are pictures of my new haircut as well as some OOTD ones.

Here is my hair before getting the haircut.

I am wearing.....Black skinny trousers from Zara, black flat pumps from New Look, a beige camisole from Zara, floral blouse from Stradivarius, blush/beige blazer from Terranova, earrings from Tally Weijl, burgundy handbag from Parfois, and Michael Kors Darci gold watch.

Here is a closer look.

Coral Red Trousers: Look 1

For us petite women finding a pair of trousers which fit well is not always easy. I used to wear pants which would be too lose around my knees. And it would drive me crazy because it wouldn't look put together at all. I still own few pants like that. Lately, however, I have been trying to invest into trousers- not only in terms of money but also time. Trying many pairs until you find the perfect one is essential. And so is accepting the fact that paying a higher price for a good quality pair of trousers is worth the extra money. In the past, I would prefer purchasing several pairs of pants at very low prices. Now, I'd rather have 3 good ones which fit perfectly and are versatile. Good quality trousers, as any other clothing piece, will last longer and can definitely be re-worn the following season. And you can always add to your collection from season to season. When I say good quality I mean Zara quality rather than Stradivarius quality. I am definitely not ready to splurge hundreds of euros on a pair of pants.

While  looking online for a new pair of trousers for this Spring and Summer, I came across a  pair of trousers in coral red by Zara which I am really loving. And since I have mentioned above the importance of buying pieces which are versatile and can be paired in many ways, I want to share with you the 10 different looks I came up with featuring these coral pants. Here is the first look. I will be posting the rest of the looks in the following weeks.

HAPPY SPRING 2013

Although the day was slightly gloomy, I am still excited for this new season. Spring is officially here! And while the weather might not allow most of the things I love about it, like dressing lightly and going for long walks, we will get there.
Easter it's on its way too. And I am excited about it and about my birthday, as well as my husband's birthday and our 3 year wedding anniversary. My grandma will come visit us from Sicily in May. So I have a lot to look forward too, including getting a new job! I have been working hard learning new things in order to increase my skills and make myself more flexible for the positions I am interested in. I really hope this hard work proves worth it, although to me it is already so.

What about you? What are you most excited about for the coming Spring and Summer? Share it in the comments below.
