Food Diary.......My Healthy Breakfast

Hello everyone,

Breakfast is in my opinion the most important meal of the day. But why is this so? If you stop and reflect about it, sleeping takes a good part of our day. For 8 to 10 hours we haven't fed our body. Thus, the first thing to do when you wake up is to put food in your organism. It is of course important to put in it the right food, and this is anything that will be healthy, filling and tasty enough to make your breakfast a look forward to meal........

I also believe that breakfast should be one of the largest meals during the day, first because it is your first meal so you need that initial extra energy to start the day and second because you will have more time to digest what you eat and to burn the calories too.

So WHAT SHOULD WE EAT FOR BREAKFAST?
First of all, keep in mind that I am not a nutritionist or a doctor. However, I have been going through dieting since I was 10 years old and I have also received professional advice in the past on a balanced diet. Moreover, I love researching about healthy eating and keep up to date with new theories and diets. However, I do not consider myself on a diet but I feel I am just a person who after trying out various diets (including the worst ones during which you starve yourself) has decided to simply EAT HEALTHY BUT STILL ENJOY FOOD!

Here is what I have daily for breakfast........
  1. 1 large banana or 2 small ones thinly sliced in a bowl, covered with some cornflakes and topped with soya milk.       OR
  2. 1 large or 2 small bananas with 2 or 3 weetabix with some light apricot jam on top and soya milk.
  3. At times I also like to add some dry fruit like raisins, sultanas or pitted prunes.
I have tried various breakfasts from rusks with jam and some milk, brown biscuits and milk, toast and egg and many others. However, I find this to be the most filling and satisfying breakfast for me. You can replace the banana with other fruits like apples and pears in winter, and peaches or strawberries in summer. Any type of berry will work too. However, I would not eat melon with my breakfast as this should be eaten alone to be easily digested. You can take dairy milk if you prefer but I would suggest you to only take skimmed milk because it is lower in fats and therefore in calories. And finally you can also replace the conrflakes or weetabix with oats, porridge, puffed wheat, Cheerios whole grain toasted oats, Ready Brek Originals. Basically keep away from chocolate, high in sugar cereals and all cereals with dry fruit. It is better to add your own fruit. Ideally, look for whole grain or mostly whole grain cereals which have less than 25% calories from sugar and have at least 5 grams fiber per serving.
