It's been more than a year since I started searching for the perfect foundation. Initially I was focusing on drugstore foundations, but then I realized that for a little bit more money I would get a better finish and quality. So I started looking for high end foundations. I tried Sisley Phyto Teint Eclat Fluid Foundation for which I have a review which you can read here. I also tried Dior, Clairins, Lancome while in the beauty stores but nothing except one seemed to match me perfectly either because it was too dark or because it made my skin look dehydrated. The only foundation which I liked so far is the Sisley one because it was light enough and it has a nice consistency. However, it gave me a porcelain finish and the coverage seems too much for my day to day use especially since I like to have very natural and minimal makeup look.
This is why I kept looking for a lighter hydrating foundation and I was very curious to try Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua for which many have raved about. However, in Malta they do not give samples for this foundation. However, I was amazed when I came to know that there was a Sephora in Catania. I was even more excited when they offered me some samples (which in Italian they call campioni) which come in small Sephora black containers as you can see below. One of these samples was the Guerlain Parure Aqua in shade 02.......
I apologize for the long introduction. Let's get to the review now..........
The Guerlain Parure Aqua foundation at the store I went to came into 6 shades, the lighter being shade 02 and the darker being shade 24. The shade I was given is the lightest 02. I must say that this is dark for me as it makes me look tanned which therefore looks awkward when compared with the rest of the body. I was really sorry to hear that they do not have a lighter shade because the consistency is ideal for my skin. It is light and liquid, therefore very hydrating, but it also has a good coverage which most hydrating water rich foundations do not have. I will definitely use this foundation in summer when and if I get darker, which I rarely do. And I will try to look around for a lighter shade.
Here are my impressions on this foundation:
- Nice consistency - not too liquid not too thick.
- Applies well and blends easily.
- Shade 2 is too dark for me especially for winter.
- This foundation does oxidise and therefore it turns even darker. Thus, if you are as fair as me or even lighter I don't recommend try the lightest shade.
- A light application gives an even skin look with good coverage but without looking as too much makeup.
- Coverage seems medium.
- It feels good on skin. It didn't irritate my skin or cause me any itching or breakout. It feels very moisturizing and the scent is not too strong.
- It looked a bit cakey in certain areas, and the darker shade made it very noticeable.
- I would have loved to try a lighter shade had there been one in store.
- This foundation is good for dehydrated skin which doesn't need too much coverage. It says to give a radiant natural complexion (which I cannot comment since it was too dark one me to appear radiant).
I really hope you find this post helpful.
If you have any questions feel free to leave them as a comment.
I will soon post 2 other high end foundations reviews.

ReplyDeleteHi. I just went inside the Sephora outlet in Catania while I was on holiday and asked for the samples. I am sure you can do the same in any other Sephora outlet.
