In this post I would like to give some advice on how to pack without getting too stressed! Remember, if you are going on holiday the last weeks before your departure should be a fun and exciting time because you know you will be soon relaxing and having fun somewhere nice. So let's make the packing fun too!
Whether you are going on a short or long holiday, you will still need to engage in the same packing process. Of course, the longer your holiday is the more staff you will have to pack but certain things will be the same independently of the length of your vacation!
Travelling is the most exciting thing to do for me! And almost as exciting as the holiday itself is the packing process. I love thinking about what to take, taking my luggages out and actually packing. The last few hours before closing the luggages tend to be stressful for me because I tend to start worrying about forgetting things. But most of the times I end up discovering that I took everything I needed. So we should stop worrying!
My packing process starts about 10 days before my holiday. I start thinking about the weather of the country I am visiting, the number of days I am staying, the things I will be doing and start imagining what outfits I could wear for the various activities. I know it sounds too much to think about but if you're like me and cannot stop thinking and planning you will find this natural and spontaneous. If you are not, try to think about it a little bit every day and don't forget to start taking notes.
In fact, the next step for me is to start making lists of the things I am doing and the outfits I will be wearing.
Then I like to take inspiration from blogs, shops websites, runway shows, magazines and pictures in general. I therefore try to research a nit every day and save the looks I like and which I think will be suitable for my holiday. I also keep in mind the pieces of clothing I already have and therefore I shop in my own wardrobe, especially if I am planning to shop a lot during my holiday!
Then of course, I start making lists of the various things I need. I would normally start with hair, face, body and makeup products. Next, I start making a list of clothing like pajamas, underwear, sports wear and comfy wear as well as shoes I need to pack. I would leave the outfits list at the end to give myself extra time to decide because this is the hardest thing for me because I like to have choice rather than one planned outfit.
Very often, I would try certain outfits I am not sure about or if I am taking new clothing pieces which I haven't styled yet.
About 6 to 5 days before I take the suitcases down (since I store them on my wardrobes), take them out to let them take fresh air (since they have been closed for a long time), then clean them with a nice scented detergent and put some scented sachets in it.
About 4 days before departing I would start packing certain things into bags like products, jewellery, underwear, shoes, other accessories. I would also start piling pyjamas, comfy clothes and sportswear and place them on a spare bed so I can visualize what I have already prepared.
Three days before leaving, I normally start packing the suitcases. I like to layer shoes, handbags, underwear, and the piled clothes at the bottom as well as belts and other accessories (although I normally pack most accessories in my hand luggage together with makeup and electronics). I will then layer jeans, trousers, not so delicate dresses and tops.
I leave the delicate clothes for the last day so they don't get wrinkle.
I also pack my liquid products in a separate bag which I check in if I am travelling by plane. I do this because I don't want to end up having my clothes and shoes soaked with liquids. And believe me, it happens!
I repeat this entire process for my husband. I would normally start packing his staff first though!
Hope you find this interesting and most important helpful......
HAPPY HOLIDAY PACKING!
