Usually, I am not a fan of Max Mara as I think it is more suitable for older ladies who want to look elegant and put together with simpler sometimes boring outfits. However, this year I am really liking this stronger collection which feels a lot masculine inspired by the 1920's military army, marine and air force uniforms but which is also very feminine in many of its details like the hair, the soft makeup, the skin shown, the silky fabrics and the gorgeous silver leather pumps with ankle straps. Below you can see my favourite looks from Max Mara FW 2012-13.
This is the perfect collection to take inspiration from when you want to combine masculinity with femininity. It is a great way to break from too much girlyness and incorporate harder and stronger more structured pieces without looking like a man. If you want to recreate similar looks you should keep the following aspects in mind.
- Go for colours like army green, black, dark browns, camel as well as white and black stripes and tweed looking fabrics.
- Incorporate into your outfit a structured military inspired hat in the same colours mentioned above, keeping the same colour of your outfit.
- Keep your outfits monochrome and when adding a second colour make sure it's in the same family.
- Add black and white thin stripes in the form of tops and dresses. Pair them with either army green or black.
- Opt for structured long coats.
- Wear pieces which feature leather details to make the look even stronger.
- On the other hand, if you want a more feminine look, go for pieces with satin and silk details.
- Pair black and white tweed with black.
- If you are brave enough and you want to stand out, incorporate suspenders and leather leg warmers with buckle details.
- For accessories, go with silver ankle straps rounded pumps and crocodile print bags.
STAY FAB
