Hair Routine.....

Hello everyone,

In this post I am going to talk about my hair routine as I hope it might be helpful to some of you out there reading my blog. It has taken me so long to post my hair routine for the only reason that I wanted to try different products before being certain about my current hair routine which I am really loving. Let's start!

I have always had somewhat greasy hair which gets oily 2 or 3 days after washing it. For the last 3 years I have been having problems with itching scalp. Normally itchy scalp means dry scalp which is a bit strange for someone with hair tending to grease. The causes of itchy scalp may be several including stress and reaction to certain hair products used. In order to get rid of the itchiness I have been trying several hair products (shampoo and conditioner) for many months now. In the past one year I have understood that notwithstanding the tendency of my hair to grease I have a dry scalp which needs to be hydrated and moisturized. Consequently all the products used in the past 6 months have been hydrating and moisturizing ones.

I would like to point out that when I purchase shampoo and conditioning products I try to balance quality and price and if I can get good quality at a cheap price I am very satisfied. The hydrating and moisturizing shampoos I have been using within the last 6 months are the following:

  1. FINESSE Revitality Hydrate & Recover Shampoo and Conditioner - These have collagen, CoQ10 and antioxidants which should plump, repair and protect the hair with the aim of revitalizing it.
  2. FINESSE Self Adjusting Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner - This line says it will moisturize the hair making it soft and more manageable and is ideal for dry or damaged hair.
  3. TRESemme' Naturals Nourishing Moisture Shampoo - This is one the latest addition to the Tresemme' line of hair products and it says it contains a less sulphates, it is hypoallergenic, has no added colour and is made with organic aloe vera and avocado oil. This shampoo should make the hair more soft and stronger after the first use and it should protect it from damage and breakage and diminishing dryness.
  4. TRESemme' Vitamin E Moisture Rich Conditioner for dry or damaged hair - This should soften the hair by restoring its moisture and strengthening it.
My Opinions on the above products:
I must say that they are all good products which have helped my scalp itchiness. In fact it has diminished almost to a point where I don't have this problem any longer. Although the Finesse Revitality is much more expensive (double in price and half in quantity) than the Finesse Self Adjusting line I haven't found a big difference between the two in terms of results.

My favourites at the moment are the Tresemme' Naturals Shampoo and the Vitamin E Moisture Rich Conditioner because when used together with the other products I am going to mention soon give me wonderful results. My hair has been looking and feeling softer and smoother, less frizzy and straighter without the need of blow drying and iron straightening.

I have been blessed with naturally beautiful and healthy straight hair. However, since I moved to Malta my hair has been less soft and more frizzy thus pushing me to use more heat which might have in small part damaged it. The reasons are the high humidity in Malta and the water which is harder than the water in Italy. In fact whenever I am on holiday in northern countries my hair feels much softer whenever I wash it.

To restore the natural softness and smoothness of my hair and eliminate the frizziness and flyways in particular I have am currently using the following hair routine and I really find it to be working well:
  1. I wash my hair twice a week with Tresemme' shampoo and conditioner above mentioned.
  2. First I wash my hair with shampoo applying it once, cleaning well the scalp and then rinsing and repeating the same a second time.
  3. Then I squeeze the water out and apply a good amount of conditioner. I clip my hair and put on a a shower cap leaving the conditioner to work in my hair for at least 20 minutes.
  4. Finally I rinse my hair well and put a clean shower cap on until I style it.
  5. I have stopped pat drying my hair with a towel as I find this increases frizziness and flyways and reduces softness. I suggest you do the same.
  6. I then comb my wet hair and apply serum on the ends of my hair and what is left in my hands on the roots. I use Hair Take Linum Drops which is supposed to reduce split ends, make the hair softer and if applied on dry hair it reduces frizziness and flyways.
  7. I then comb my hair with my fingers to get the product well into the hair.
  8. Next I spray my hair with Tresemme' Iron Style and Hold Spray which should protect your hair from heat while giving some hold and control and shine to the hair when styling it.
  9. Finally I dry my hair without any brush just naturally. I use the Remington Pro Ionic Ultra which has the following characteristics: powerful 2100 watts dryer, low noise, ceramic and tourmaline. It also has turbo setting for increased speed and a cool shot good to fix your style, reduce heat damage and ideal for summer.
  10. I do not straighten or blow dry mu hair straight every time I wash my hair as after few hour my hair will straighten itself. Only when I want very straight hair I will use a straightening iron but I try to keep this to once a month or even less in order to reduce heat damage.

Any changes I plan to make to my hair routine:
  • I want to try the TRESemme' Naturals Conditioner since I am trying to use more organic and natural products and I also like the fact that it hypoallergenic.
Love,

AlessiaPearl.
