TRIBAL Trend.......Spring Summer 2012

Last year we saw fringes, feathers, colourful leopard prints as well as tribal pieces. This year the TRIBAL/ETHNIC trend is back but also much better than it has ever been!

I have never been into animal prints, especially on clothing. I could take it on shoes and purses but not on fabrics. I have always considered to be tasteless and not elegant. May be I thought that statement pieces could not be classic and tasteful, or may be I was afraid to wear them because they would make me stand out (and I have never loved to be attract too much attention). Now, I know I was so wrong and although animal print can be tacky if not paired carefully and not balanced, I am loving this trend. And so far the tribal pieces I have seen  on the runway are all very harmonic, in the sense that they are bold but graceful.

The collections which most inspired me are definitely Michael Kors SS12 and Etro SS12. As you can see above and below, the two  are very different from each other in that they follow different concepts. Michael Kors collection has more of an African Safari style and presents many leather and animal print details. On the other hand, Veronica Etro pieces  are more Moroccan and graphical with few ethnic details which are more colourful and less animal inspired than Michael Kors.

Last Saturday I came across an accessories shop which was having a 50% sale, and I purchased 2 pieces (a clutch and a scarf). Only now, I realize that although I got them on sale these 2 pieces recall the tribal trend which is so in at the moment. The clutch, with its animal skin details is more Michael Kors inspired.

Whereas the scarf with its colourful and graphical print follows the concept behind the Etro collection for this season. Finally, the scarf also mimics another popular current trend which is that of eclectic colours and is very similar to one piece in D&G SS12 collection (you can see below).

As always, I can't stress enough the point of being trendy but most importantly feeling great with the clothes you wear without necessarily having to break the bank.

STAY FAB.
