How to Shop:.......January Sales

Now that the holidays are over we have something else to be excited about..........SALES........Everyone, especially the ladies, looks forward to January Sales. This year many shops started special offers and discounts even before Christmas to invite more customer to shop. However, the true sales experts were not fooled by these small price cuts. And have been waiting patiently for the actual sales to start so as to get as many bargains as possible. If you like me don't have an unlimited budget for your sales shopping I am sure you can use the following tips on how to shop this winter's sales.

  1. PLAN AHEAD
  2. WAIT UNTIL SALES GO UP TO AT LEAST 50 %  OR BETTER 75%
  3. TRY NOT TO SPLURGE ON A SINGLE ITEM
  4. BUY ONLY WHAT YOU NEED AND WHAT YOU REALLY LIKE
  5. DON'T BUY THINGS JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE CHEAP
  6. THINK ABOUT COMING EVENTS' OUTFITS
  7. BUY GIFTS FOR COMING BIRTHDAYS
  8. BUY BASICS AND ESSENTIAL PIECES
  9. BUY PIECES TO COMPLETE YOUR INSPIRED OUTFITS
  10. IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT BUY INVESTMENT PIECES WHILE ON SALES

Planning ahead is very important for any shopping trip, including January Sales. Start thinking about what you really need. Which basics are you missing in your wardrobe? Do you need new underwear, socks, tights and leggings,  pajamas, slippers, a cozy housecoat,  workout clothes and shoes. What about leg and arm warmers as well as extra scarves, hats and gloves to get you through the coming cold months? Do you need more tank tops, turtle necks, warms sweaters and chunky cardigans for your winter layering? If you need these items why not get them now that they are half price or 75% off.

Buying basic and essentials on sales is a win win situation. I always try to wait as much as I can before starting my Sales Shopping simply because price cuts will get higher at the end of January and even higher during February.  Plus, during the last few years with the economic recession throughout the world sales periods have got longer. And it is during the last months of sales that one can get the best deals. What I do is I start looking around shops as from the second week of January and only buy those pieces which I really need and believe I am not going to find later if I wait, of course only if these represent good deals. I try  not to splurge on a single item especially at the beginning of the Sales unless the item is an investment piece like a classic handbag, coat or pair of shoe. I have also learned through mistakes year after year not to buy things simply because they are very cheap and affordable.

If I don't need it or I don't love it I won't buy it.    There is no point in buying something unless you love it. This behaviour will only lead you to a boring wardrobe. Another thing I have learned in order to look fab and spend as less as I can is to try and buy outfits for coming events during sales. If I have a special date coming (like Valentine's day) or a family get together dinner or party or a celebration event (like a wedding or anniversary party) I will try to buy my outfits at least most of it during sales. This is what I did last year for Valentine's day and my grandparents's 50 anniversary and it worked well. I was able to rock a new dress for the two occasions without feeling guilty about it.....There is nothing better than looking fab while knowing you did not break the bank to get there! If you want to see how I looked for these 2 events click the following links http://alessiapearl.blogspot.com/2011/02/how-to-wear-little-red-dress.html and http://alessiapearl.blogspot.com/2011/01/outfit-for-family-event.html.

Another trick for saving money is to buy coming Birthday gifts during Sales. This way I am able to purchase more things with my budget and therefore give bigger gifts. People won't know you bought the item on sales and even if they do they won't mind because what counts is your thought. Finally, I try to buy those clothing pieces as well as shoes and accessories I am missing in my wardrobe to be able to recreate inspiration outfits I have saved after browsing online shop catalogues, watching runways shows and reading style blogs. Also if you can find these on sales buy new makeup and beauty products you need and want. Where I live beauty products do not go on sales unfortunately.
